Dr. Yoonbae Oh
Associate Director, Neural Engineering Laboratories, Mayo Clinic
Associate Professor, Neurosurgery, Mayo Clinic
Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering, Mayo Clinic
Dr. Yoonbae Oh is an Associate Director in Neural Engineering Laboratories and Associate Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic, Rochester Minnesota. He received his PhD in Neural Engineering from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Hanyang University in South Korea. Dr. Oh joined the Mayo Clinic in 2016, Significantly, Dr. Oh has been instrumental in the development of multiple techniques for improving clinical practice and preclinical research. Major development efforts include neural engineering, specifically in electrophysiology, stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, and electrochemistry. For the past years, his research has focused on developing novel real-time neurochemical recording techniques to measure vital neurotransmitters in the brain (e.g., dopamine and serotonin) and elucidating the therapeutic mechanisms of electrical stimulation in restoring function in brain. His developments in medical field resulted in multiple patents which are essential for next-generation clinical practice in neurology and neurosurgery.
He is also a founding member and a president of NaviNetics, Inc., a stereotactic neurosurgical device company, and NaviNetics NeuroModulation, Inc., a smart deep brain stimulation company, in Rochester along with Dr. Kevin Bennet and Dr. Kendall Lee.
Dr. Oh received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, a Masters of Biomedical Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy in Neural Engineering from the Hanyang University.
